The Study Room is a space dedicated to support academic instruction and scholarly research on the collection. The Study Room provides a venue for faculty, students, scholars, and the public to access artworks not on public view.

A maximum of approximately 8 artworks can be displayed in the Study Room at one time, depending on the size and special requirements of each object. Please note that certain artworks may be unavailable for viewing due to condition, safety, or security issues. Visitors are welcome to return multiple times for viewing additional artworks.

For more information or to make a Study Room reservation for your class, please contact José Garza, museum academic programs coordinator, at

To make a Study Room appointment for independent research, please contact Kim Broker, registrar for collections, at

The Study Room is available for class visits on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

We recommend that instructors reserve the Study Room as early in the semester as possible to secure their optimal date or dates. Instructors are also welcome to make an appointment to view artworks privately before bringing their class.

Instructors must be present during class visits. Museum educators can be available for questions or to provide additional information during visits. Requests must be made at least two weeks in advance.

No more than 16 people are allowed in the Study Room at one time. For larger classes, separate appointments can be made, or students can rotate through the room in small groups.

We strongly advise researchers to make appointments in the Study Room prior to making travel arrangements. Object files may also be requested for viewing; requests should be made in conjunction with the appointment request. Photocopies can be made for a nominal charge.

The only items allowed in the Study Room are pencils, paper, cell phones, tablets, and laptops.

All other personal items—including food, drinks, backpacks, book bags, purses, and coats—will be checked in and securely stored at the Welcome Desk.
