"Cities, Citizens and Landscapes" will feature presentations by James Holston, Ph.D., and Michael Rios, Ph.D., followed by a roundtable discussion. The focus of the event will be on public space praxis in urban communities and the implications for theorizing cultural identity formation and political efficacy, including the insurgence of democratic citizenships in the context of global urbanization. The event is co-sponsored by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and the Department of Anthropology.

Holston is a professor of Social & Cultural Anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley. Rios is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis, with a background in architecture, urban design, and cultural geography.
