Went the Day Well? (1942), directed by Alberto Cavalcanti

Inspired by a Graham Greene short story, this British film takes place in the fictitious rural village of Bramley End during World War II, where German troops disguised as British soldiers prepare to lay the groundwork for a German invasion. Released while the war was still in progress, but after the threat of German invasion had mostly subsided, the film is regarded as unofficial home-front propaganda.

Complementing the exhibitions World War I: War of Images, Images of War and The Paintings of Sir Winston Churchill, the War on Film film series brings together three films that explore different aspects of World Wars I and II.
