Paths of Glory (1957), directed by Stanley Kubrick

Known for its scenes of World War I trench warfare, this film tells the story of French soldiers on the front line who are ordered by ambitious and ruthless generals to engage in a futile attack. After the disastrous mission fails, three soldiers are tried for cowardice in order to make examples of them to fellow soldiers and deflect blame for the bloodbath.

Complementing the exhibitions World War I: War of Images, Images of War and The Paintings of Sir Winston Churchill, the War on Film film series brings together three films that explore different aspects of World Wars I and II.
