Faculty Workshop: Integrating the Arts into a Health Professions Curriculum

October 10, 2018
Room 301, Eric P. Newman Education Center (EPNEC), 320 S Euclid Avenue

Partnerships between health professions schools and art museums have proven successful in increasing students’ observation and visual analysis skills. Offered at more than 90 museums across the country, including the Kemper Art Museum, these programs reinforce the importance of close looking within the practice of healthcare.

This workshop will showcase the Kemper Art Museum’s Art of Observation program in which students examine a selection of artworks, form interpretations using visual evidence, hone their observational and descriptive abilities, and improve their communication skills.

University Academic Programs Coordinator Rochelle Caruthers will demonstrate how the Art of Observation program can fit into a health professions curriculum, and teaching artist Maria Ojascastro will lead a hands-on activity designed to promote team collaboration.

The workshop is free, but registration is required. Contact Rochelle Caruthers at or 314.935.9433. Space is limited to 25 participants.
