Lloyd Menard received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has taught printmaking, papermaking and drawing at the University of South Dakota for over thirty years. He is founder and director of Frogman's Print and Paper Workshops, one of the most prestigious printmaking workshops in the world. In operation for over twenty years, the annual workshop draws the most important teachers of printmaking and papermaking and hundreds of students to South Dakota each summer.
Menard also founded Frogman's Press and Gallery in Beresford, South Dakota where he has curated over forty exhibitions since 1994. Menard has collaborated with over two-hundred artists to produce editions and and prints at both Frogman's Press and at the University of South Dakota. His art work is held in hundreds of university, corporate and museum collections.
The work Menard produced at Island Press was destroyed in a gallery fire. Only the helper prints exist today.
